Arapahoe’s Champion

For working Families in District 4

MAYA IS ALL IN FOR ARAPAHOE DISTRICT 4

Are you with her?

Hi, Neighbor!

I’m Maya.

I’m running to be your next Arapahoe County Commissioner in District 4 because I know what it means to live the challenges facing working families – and I know how to fight for solutions.

I’ve lived my adult life here in Aurora. I’ve raised my children here. I’ve mentored youth, led nonprofit programs, fought for access to healthcare, and stood beside neighbors through crisis and recovery. I’ve sat at kitchen tables, not boardrooms. I’ve walked in your shoes.

Now, with Arapahoe County projected to outgrow Denver by 2030, the choices we make will shape who can afford to live here, who can raise a family here, and who has a voice in how we grow.

We need leadership that is grounded in lived experience and proven service. I’m a proud Democrat, and I believe the government should be a force for good: expanding opportunity, defending dignity, and building a future that works for everyone.

You can learn more about me, discover my priorities for Arapahoe County, and even donate to my campaign to help me win! I can only do this with your support. Can I count on your support to be a brighter, more livable Arapahoe County?

Yours in service,

Arapahoe’s Future is on the Line.

Maya will move the needle in District 4

The key to accomplishing big things is first achieving success among many little things. That means supporting Arapahoe families in meaningful ways that we feel at home and in our bank accounts.

Maya knows what it’s like to be a working parent and the difficulty of working her way up from a union job calling train crews to work, to IT project management to healthcare marketing, to leading nonprofits that connect families to economic opportunities, healthcare, and jobs.

She’s worked in the trenches, led teams, and inspired Colorado’s future leaders with an undefeatable attitude and an eye for measurable progress.

Maya worked her way through college, initially earning a business degree, followed by three master’s degrees. Maya worked full time all throughout, and raised her young family. She understands how building strong pathways into a quality education focused on reducing financial and social burdens associated with high education will help ensure we all have durable, well-paying jobs and a diverse economy.

Maya has launched a successful  community non-profit called The Wezesha Dada Center, which helps Colorado youth explore careers, land their first jobs, and start businesses. The non-profit even helps entrepreneurs and small businesses owners access capital, and empowers women to find their voice, and families to gain economic footholds no matter their background.

Maya has shaped policy through her work advising on health and county policy for Arapahoe County, Colorado Health Benefits Exchange, and Denver Health’s Community Advisory Panel where Maya guided researchers, community leaders, and commissioners on how to better engage with communities of color and ensure quality of outcomes in critical community health programs.

Maya is a leader with an extensive history of showing up in times of crisis and defending our voices.

For example, Maya helped with emergency medical transportation during the pandemic to make sure people still had access to care.

She also fought for fairness as a Child Welfare Specialist, helping to reform CDHS practices across Colorado’s 64 counties to reduce racial disparities and push for accountability state-wide.

Maya has a long history boosting civic engagement and helping to increase voter participation in Arapahoe among our communities that are too often overlooked.
